How Erin Rue Doubled Her Client Base and Revenue Since Joining the Staying Solo Squad

A year ago, Erin Rue, CPA and founder of Uplevel Your Accounting LLC,, had just relaunched her solo financial practice after stepping away from a consulting role and taking time to reassess the direction of her business.

“I had essentially just relaunched my solo firm,” she said. “About the time the Squad launched is when I decided to get serious about just growing this business and staying in it forever.”

At that crucial turning point, Erin joined the Staying Solo Squad, a community exclusively for solo service business owners. Her goal was simple: “I wanted a space where I could talk about business stuff and ask questions. I didn’t want it to be a CPA group.”

A Space for Smart, Intentional Growth

What drew Erin to the Squad and set it apart for her was the diversity of thought and business experience among its members. “I’ve followed Maggie long enough to know that whoever she was bringing into this group was going to be people with different perspectives,” she explained.

She found the Squad especially powerful because of the mix of industries, experiences, and personalities among the members—it’s not just fellow CPAs echoing the same old advice.

“It’s been very helpful with people who have different industry experiences from mine. A sense of community is important, and being able to talk about various business practices, special tools, and how things work for others has been key.”

Strategic Support: Training with a Clear Path

A standout aspect for Erin has been the workshop materials and Maggie’s structured approach.

“The workshops are outstanding. I was going through the Strategy Reset content, and I was like, this is worth way more than the price of the Squad each month,” Erin shared. “It’s not just a ‘throw something at the wall’ thing—Maggie gives you a roadmap.”

After initially focusing on client acquisition, Erin is now refining her strategic offers. “Let’s figure out the exact strategy I want to sell, make sure it’s going to work for the people I want to sell it to, and get the messaging right. Maggie’s intentional about how she approaches it.”

Doubling Clients, Boosting Revenue, and Setting Boundaries

Over the past year since she joined the Squad, Erin has seen transformative results in her business:

  • More than doubled her client base.
  • Nearly doubled her revenue.
  • Reduced outside consulting work to focus on her own firm.
  • Set stronger boundaries with clients and partners.

While the growth in both her client base and revenue has been a considerable boost to the business, the confidence she has gained from being part of the Squad has also been instrumental in her growth.

“I’m much more willing to say no to people or say that doesn’t fit with what I’m trying to do,” she said. “Being in this group and being kind of forced to think about getting your shit done has made me grow this business in a way that I feel like we're at a good spot now.”

Community Motivation Without Competition

One of the most motivating parts of the Squad for Erin has been the wins shared by other members.

“When I see very smart people making really good moves, it’s inspiring,” she shared. “It’s not a comparison thing, it’s not a competition thing. We’re in different industries, and it’s motivational.”

Unlike how some niche-focused groups with others in the same profession can feel competitive or judgmental, Erin found the Staying Solo Squad to be a refreshing and supportive community. “It’s the complete opposite of that, and that’s what I love about it.”

Leadership That Guides, Not Dictates

One of the biggest praises Erin has for the Squad is related to Maggie’s leadership style, which she finds both grounded and empowering. “You can get messy, and it’s fine. Maggie helps lead you down a path, but lets you figure out your own answers. She guides you through the process to use your own critical thinking skills.”

She also appreciates Maggie’s integrity: “If you’re doing something shady online, or if you’re using a shady sales tactic, she has no problem saying, ‘Hey, that’s really inappropriate.’”

When asked what she’d say to someone considering joining the Squad, she emphasizes the value of direct access to Maggie, Sara, and the genuine support available in the community. Erin also had this to say:

“Sign up today. Do it now! For someone who wants to stay solo, run a strategic service business, and be intentional, this is the group to join. You’re not signing up for something where the person you wanted access to just disappears. You have real access to Maggie and Sara, which makes a huge difference.”
